Hidden Gem Cat Rescue merges with Seattle Area Feline Rescue (SAFe)

Shoreline, WALocal News

Seattle Area Feline Rescue (SAFe Rescue) merged with Hidden Gem Cat Rescue on October 20, 2025, to enhance their capacity for caring for orphaned neonatal kittens. Hidden Gem operated exclusively from foster homes, focusing on the care of fragile “bottle babies,” while SAFe Rescue will offer a dedicated physical location for these efforts. This merger allows SAFe to expand its foster programs and community services, leveraging Hidden Gem's trained caregivers. Sam Winchester, Hidden Gem’s former Executive Director, noted the critical need for patient and committed foster families for these vulnerable kittens. The collaboration responds to the increasing numbers of unaltered cats in Washington, which result in higher mortality risks for their litters.

Michelle Flowers, SAFe’s Foster Program Manager, highlighted the merger's potential to save more orphaned neonates and meet partner needs for care. Additionally, Svanee’s Foundation will match donations up to $20,000 for SAFe’s Bottle Baby Campaign, doubling the impact of community contributions. SAFe Rescue aims to raise essential funds to expand its capacity to support these fragile newborn felines.
