HNTB and the Port of Seattle celebrated the opening of the new Upper/Departures Drive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a key milestone in the Roadway Improvements project aimed at reducing congestion. The upgrades include two dedicated southbound lanes for shuttles and taxis, expanded curbside access, and improved signage, crucial for handling over 52 million annual travelers. Behind the scenes, significant utility upgrades enhance the airport's operational efficiency and sustainability. HNTB, the lead designer, worked closely with the Port to ensure the project meets current and future needs. The new lanes are part of a broader initiative to modernize airport infrastructure, aligning with the Port's transportation goals.

As construction transitions to grading between the upper and lower drives, traffic will be redirected temporarily to maintain smooth passenger access. The enhancements are strategically planned to support upcoming events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. HNTB has also collaborated with the Port on other projects, such as a new TSA checkpoint to ease congestion.
