Fish culvert project on Ballinger WaySR 104 delayed by rain

Shoreline, WALocal News

Last weekend's heavy rains overwhelmed pumps on SR 104, delaying the fish culvert project aimed at enhancing local fish passage. Crews worked over the weekend to remove excess water, but the site requires several days to dry before construction can resume. To mitigate future flooding, the contractor is adding pumping capacity and other preventative measures. Overnight lane closures are planned around 35th Avenue Northeast throughout November to facilitate sewer work on local streets. Depending on weather conditions, final paving around the new culvert and adjacent local streets may be postponed until spring 2026.

Officials recognize the frustration these delays cause and reaffirm their commitment to delivering a high-quality project. The project is significant for local wildlife and the community's environmental health. Local stakeholders have expressed their desire for timely completion to support both ecological and infrastructural improvements.
