The Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation celebrated urban trees at a special reception on September 23, 2025, held at Red Sky Gallery, where artist Jannelle Loewen's tree paintings were featured. President Kim Josund spoke about the Foundation’s mission, noting that the city boasts a tree canopy coverage exceeding 50%, stemming from years of community dedication. She emphasized the importance of trees in improving physical and emotional health while addressing issues like water quality and climate change. Loewen shared her personal connection to trees, explaining how the loss of a grove inspired her artwork titled “Trees as Sacred Beings. ” The Foundation presented one of her paintings to Mayor Tom French as a gesture of gratitude for the city's environmental leadership.

This painting, “Growing to the Sun,” symbolizes the strength and resilience of Lake Forest Park’s trees. Displayed in the City Hall lobby, it serves as a reminder of the vital role trees play in the community. The event aims to inspire innovative solutions for urban forest protection and climate change mitigation.
