West Coast Health Alliance raises concerns about federal recommendations for childhood vaccines

Shoreline, WALocal News

The West Coast Health Alliance expressed strong concerns about updated recommendations from the ACIP regarding the MMRV and hepatitis B vaccines. They argue that these recommendations could restrict parental choice and access to essential vaccines, especially for children in the federal Vaccines for Children program. The Washington State Department of Health is assessing potential impacts on children enrolled in Apple Health. Notably, ACIP failed to present new safety data justifying the changes to vaccine recommendations. Governor Bob Ferguson criticized the recommendations, stating they complicate access to vaccines deemed safe and effective by science.

He pledged that Washington would continue advocating for public health policies based on sound scientific evidence. The recommendations could set a troubling precedent regarding how vaccine guidelines are established. The Alliance's concerns highlight the ongoing debate over vaccine accessibility and parental rights in healthcare decisions.
