After half an hour in the water, kayaker rescued from Puget Sound off Edmonds

Shoreline, WALocal News

South County Firefighters rescued a man from the Puget Sound off Edmonds on September 18, 2025, after he fell from his kayak and spent over 30 minutes in the water without a life jacket. The man was located approximately 100 yards offshore from Beach Camp at Sunset Bay around 1:30 p. m. Firefighters employed a special suit and heat packs to warm the man as they rushed him back to shore. He was taken to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, where he received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Marine 16, stationed at the Port of Edmonds, is equipped to handle rescues, fires, and medical emergencies throughout the year. This incident underscores the critical need for safety precautions, such as wearing life jackets, while engaging in water activities. In Washington State, drowning incidents are a significant concern, particularly among recreational boaters and kayakers. Local authorities continue to promote water safety awareness to prevent similar incidents.
