Boeing Employees partnership transforms lives of veterans through accessibility improvements

The Employees Community Fund of Boeing has transformed the Shoreline Veterans Center through over $275,000 in funding since 2008, enhancing accessibility for veterans. Recent projects include a wheelchair lift for the community van and improved pathways to veteran-run garden beds, significantly impacting residents' independence and quality of life. Program manager Shree Vigil praised the ECF for its responsiveness to veterans' needs, stating, "When we have a need, they step up. " Resident James highlighted the lift's life-changing impact, allowing him newfound independence and mobility. Another resident, Joe, expressed joy in gardening, stating it helps him feel at home after losing his housing.

He is currently cultivating tomatoes and planning fall plantings. The ECF pools donations from Boeing employees, celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2024 and donating $5. 7 million to nonprofits across the country last year. This partnership exemplifies the significant role of corporate philanthropy in addressing homelessness and improving veterans' lives.
