Fish causes fire in British Columbia

Shoreline, WALocal News

A grass fire near Ashcroft, British Columbia, was attributed to an osprey dropping a fish onto hydro lines, which ignited the dry vegetation below. Firefighters arrived shortly before noon and managed to control the blaze using approximately 4,800 gallons of water, effectively cooling the affected area. The fire's location, about 6 kilometers south of town near Highway 1, drew immediate attention from local fire units and BC Hydro personnel. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the absence of strong winds helped contain the situation. This unusual incident sheds light on the unpredictable interactions between wildlife and human infrastructure.

While the osprey remains a prime suspect, local officials stress the importance of being aware of fire risks during dry seasons. The community is encouraged to stay safe and prepared, especially during weekends. Firefighters expressed gratitude for the rapid response and collaboration among agencies.
