Mushroom programs at the Senior Activity Center

Shoreline, WALocal News

The Shoreline Library announces two free mushroom programs for adults at the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Activity Center on September 23 and September 30. The first event, "Time to Dye with Fungi," focuses on dyeing techniques using mushrooms. Marion Richards will demonstrate how to create a vibrant dye palette through various mushroom species. The second program, "Fall Mushroom Hunting in the Pacific Northwest," features Marian Maxwell, a past president of the Puget Sound Mycological Society, who will provide insights into mushroom foraging. Attendees will learn about necessary permits, popular fall mushrooms, cooking methods, preservation techniques, and safety precautions to avoid toxic varieties.

Each session runs from 2-3:30 PM, and registration is required for participation. The events aim to educate the community on the versatility and safety of mushrooms beyond culinary uses. The Shoreline Library's initiative highlights local engagement in nature-based activities and fosters interest in mycology.
