State Route 104/Ballinger Way NE will close in both directions near 35th Ave NE for at least 35 days starting September 4, 2025, to facilitate a fish passage improvement project. The Washington State Department of Transportation will replace the existing 6-foot-wide culvert with a new 24-foot-wide structure, significantly enhancing habitat for fish along Lyon Creek. Detours will guide pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles around the work zone, which will operate 24/7. Crews will also finish sewer upgrades that began earlier this summer on adjacent streets. Construction will occur seven days a week, with daytime noise prioritized but some work extending into the night.

The project aims to open nearly 7. 5 miles of potential upstream habitat, benefiting native and migrating fish species. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to restore local ecosystems and improve wildlife habitats. The project underscores the commitment to environmental sustainability and infrastructure improvement in the region.
