LFP City Leaders to provide opportunities for citizens to provide feedback on police and public safety levy

Shoreline, WALocal News

Lake Forest Park city leaders will propose a six-year police and public safety levy for the November 2025 ballot, aiming to address rising public safety costs. Over the past four years, expenses for police and related services have increased by 24%, necessitating this funding initiative. The proposed levy rate is $0. 24 per $1,000 of assessed property value, starting in 2026. Community presentations and Q&A sessions will be held to inform residents about the measure and gather feedback.

Property tax exemptions will be available for low-income seniors, disabled veterans, and individuals with disabilities. A community survey conducted last November revealed that public safety is the top priority for residents. To maintain a balanced budget, the city has already cut spending by over $455,000 and relied on one-time funds, which are not sustainable long-term. Details about the levy and engagement opportunities will be made available on the city's website.
