Voters Approve Shoreline School District Levy Close LFP and Kenmore Council Races
Shoreline School District voters approved Proposition 1, a one-year supplemental levy, by a significant margin, with over 75% supporting the measure. Voter turnout for the August primary was low, especially among younger voters, as only 18% of those aged 18-24 participated. The supplemental levy, made possible by a new state law, will raise $7. 25 million in 2026 to enhance educational programs, including special education and extracurricular activities. Despite the new levy, property taxes for a median-valued home will decrease to approximately $2,535 due to the payoff of old loans and the addition of new homes in the district.
The total tax rate will drop to about $3. 13 per $1,000 of assessed value, down from $3. 21 in 2025. The district plans to propose new levies in February 2026 to replace existing ones expiring at the end of 2026. Additionally, close races for city council positions in Lake Forest Park and Kenmore saw incumbents Semra Riddle and Joe Marshall advancing to the November general election.
These local elections highlight the ongoing engagement of voters in community governance.
