Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Bothell, and Lynnwood accept opioid settlement payouts

Shoreline, WALocal News

Lynnwood, Bothell, Lake Forest Park, and Shoreline will receive opioid settlement payouts aimed at combating the opioid crisis. Lynnwood will receive nearly $4. 5 million over 17 years, the largest allocation in the region, while Bothell expects over $3 million, focusing on behavioral health services and community support. Lake Forest Park plans to use its anticipated $304,097 for Narcan training and assistance for families affected by substance use disorders. Shoreline will receive about $252,239 without a publicly detailed spending plan.

The opioid epidemic in King County has escalated, with annual deaths nearly tripling since 2019, prompting local governments to take action. State Representative Lauren Davis noted that the decline in opioid deaths in 2024 may be due to a shrinking population of those with severe opioid use disorder. Cities must report their spending to the Opioid Abatement Council, ensuring funds are used effectively. The settlements aim to address addiction treatment, harm reduction, and prevention efforts throughout the region.
