Culvert replacement underway at 35th Ave NE Ballinger Way (SR104)

Shoreline, WALocal News

The Lyon Creek culvert replacement project along Ballinger Way has commenced, with work scheduled up to seven days a week and traffic control from 9 PM to 5 AM. Planned closures include overnight single-lane restrictions on SR 104 and a five-day closure of Northeast 185th Street. These measures are necessary to complete site work and utility upgrades before the installation of a new culvert beneath SR 104. Many existing culverts in King County are outdated, often too small or steep, which obstructs fish passage. Modern culverts will simulate natural stream conditions, allowing salmon and other aquatic life to navigate upstream and downstream more easily.

The project is expected to resolve decades of blocked habitat for local fish species. Residents are advised to be patient and drive cautiously through the construction zones. Improved fish passage is vital for the health of aquatic ecosystems in the region.
