MLT Cares keeps Parade tradition alive despite challenges

Shoreline, WALocal News

MLT Cares organized the MLT Parade on July 18, 2025, marking a new chapter after the retirement of the Smith family, who had organized the event for over 30 years. The parade experienced a significant drop in attendance, with estimates showing only about a third of the usual crowd. Contributing factors included limited promotion and the absence of carnival activities, which traditionally drew families to the event. John, a longtime attendee, expressed disappointment over the lack of advertising, stating, “Mountlake Terrace didn’t advertise enough. ” Despite the smaller size, parade-goers appreciated the clear views of the procession, especially during the performance of the Seafair Pirates.

The parade followed its usual route along 56th Avenue West and remains a Seafair-sanctioned event, ensuring its continuity. MLT Cares stepped up to maintain this community tradition, even under challenging circumstances. For more information or to support future events, visit mltcares. com.
