Shoreline, WALocal News

On July 14, 1915, the Liberty Bell reached Seattle, where it was met with a fervent welcome from local residents. This historic bell, ordered by the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly in 1751, features an inscription from Leviticus 25:10 that reads, "Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof. " Over the years, the bell became a powerful symbol, ringing for Independence Day and inspiring movements like women's suffrage and the Civil Rights movement. It weighs approximately 2,000 pounds and has undergone multiple repairs due to cracks. The bell was last rung on George Washington's birthday in 1846 and was subsequently retired due to irreparable damage.

Today, it is housed at the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, where it continues to represent the enduring spirit of liberty in America. This event highlights the historical significance of the Liberty Bell and its connection to the values cherished by Washingtonians and Americans alike.
