Kruckeberg receives Spotlight Award for Outdoor Spaces

Shoreline, WALocal News

The Kruckeberg Botanic Garden in Shoreline proudly received the Washington Recreation & Parks Association Spotlight Award for Outdoor Spaces, acknowledging its efforts to create accessible recreational spaces. The award was largely attributed to the newly built Kruckeberg Boardwalk, completed in August 2024, which facilitates movement between the upper and lower sections of the garden. Funded by the voter-approved 2022 Parks Bond, the boardwalk reflects a commitment to enhancing visitor experience. Collaboration between Shoreline and Kruckeberg staff ensured the design met accessibility standards for individuals on wheels. This initiative allows a broader audience to explore the garden's collection of over 2,000 plant species and participate in educational programs.

Local officials expressed appreciation for the garden’s beauty and community role. The boardwalk not only improves access but also enriches the public's engagement with nature. Congratulations were extended to all involved in this significant achievement.
