King County Council sends Medic OneEmergency Medical Services levy to ballot for renewal
The King County Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to advance a six-year levy proposal for the Medic One/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program to the November ballot. This initiative aims to secure up to $1. 4 billion through 2031, with a proposed maximum levy rate of $0. 250 per $1,000 assessed value. Councilmember Reagan Dunn noted the program's life-saving effectiveness, stating it has saved countless lives while also reducing the tax burden for residents.
The existing EMS levy expires at the end of 2025, necessitating this renewal for sustained funding. Councilmember Rod Dembowski reiterated the county's exemplary role in emergency medical response, thanking first responders for their service. King County’s Medic One/EMS system provides critical regional responses, with cardiac arrest victims two to three times more likely to survive compared to other U. S. communities.
The levy proposal reflects the council's commitment to maintaining high-quality emergency services. Voters will decide on the measure during the election scheduled for November 4, 2025.
