SeaTac cancels Fourth of July celebrations, other WA cities go on

SeaTac, WALocal News

SeaTac has canceled its Fourth of July celebrations at Angle Lake Park for 2025 and 2026, primarily due to safety concerns and low police staffing. Last year, the event attracted about 10,000 attendees, but it was disrupted when malfunctioning drones fell into the lake, leading to a refund for the city. After two Public Safety and Justice Committee meetings, officials opted to reconsider how large-scale events are hosted. The park will remain open from 7 a. m.

to 6 p. m. for residents to enjoy independently. Nearby cities, including Federal Way and Kent, will host their own Fourth of July festivities, allowing residents alternatives for celebration. Additionally, a private club is set to organize a fireworks display at the southern end of Angle Lake.

The city's decision highlights ongoing concerns regarding event safety and community engagement. Officials aim to develop a more effective framework for future large-scale events.
