Neighbors prepare for chaos after SeaTac cancels Fourth of July show
SeaTac has decided to cancel Fourth of July celebrations for 2025 and 2026, prioritizing safety over past technological mishaps from the 2024 drone show. The drone show, which cost $40,000, attracted 10,000 attendees, but 50 drones fell into the lake, raising safety concerns for future events. Jim Todd, Vice President of the Angle Lake Shore Club, warned of potential chaos as residents may seek to circumvent park closures to view fireworks. The city plans to close public parks at 6 p. m.
on July 4, three hours before sunset, leading to questions about crowd control. Despite the city's withdrawal of funding, the Angle Lake Shore Club will continue its fireworks tradition, which has been a staple for over 80 years. Todd noted that last year's show went on without city support, providing a memorable experience for attendees. The city has suggested nearby fireworks events in Burien and Auburn for residents looking for alternatives. Officials have not detailed how they will manage the anticipated influx of people in surrounding neighborhoods.
