Lochsa, upper Salmon and South Fork Salmon rivers to open to chinook fishing
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved summer chinook fishing seasons, increasing the seasonal bag limit from 10 to 20 adult fish. Anglers can begin fishing today on the Lochsa River, with the South Fork of the Salmon and upper Salmon rivers opening on Thursday. The daily bag limit is set at four fish for both the Lochsa and upper Salmon rivers, with two adults allowed on each. On the South Fork of the Salmon, anglers can keep four fish, but only one may be an adult. All three rivers will permit fishing seven days a week until the season ends on August 10.
As of Thursday, 42,667 adult spring and summer chinook salmon have been counted at Lower Granite Dam, slightly above the 10-year average. The commission's decision aims to enhance angling opportunities in the region, promoting local recreation and tourism. Increased fishing limits reflect the health of the chinook salmon population, encouraging responsible fishing practices.
