See where Oaklands building affordable housing in new interactive maps

Oakland, CALocal News

Oakland has experienced a resurgence in affordable housing construction, opening 1,630 low-income units since 2020 due to Measure U and the Homekey program. A new interactive online dashboard reveals the locations and demographics of these developments, aimed at improving transparency and accessibility. The dashboard shows that nearly 2,000 additional affordable homes are in the pipeline, including 1,872 new units and 406 properties being preserved as affordable housing. The largest upcoming project is the affordable portion of Mandela Station, which will provide 238 low-income units. Many of the preservation units are small properties converted into permanent supportive housing.

While most of the affordable housing units are concentrated in the Oakland flatlands, District 4 remains particularly underserved. Despite these positive developments, Oakland still struggles to meet state housing construction targets. The ongoing efforts reflect a significant response to the city's pressing housing crisis.
