Affordable homes safeguarded in Kamloops

The B. C. government has committed $2. 8 million from its Rental Protection Fund to preserve 25 affordable homes in Kamloops. Connective Support Society successfully acquired the Riverside Gardens property, which will protect long-term housing stability for residents.

Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon underscored the importance of maintaining affordable rental options amid a global housing crisis. Riverside Gardens features a diverse range of units with rents over 40% lower than market rates, from approximately $800 for studio apartments to $1,235 for two-bedroom units. The Rental Protection Fund also allocated $230,000 for essential building improvements, ensuring the property remains well-maintained. This acquisition is part of a larger $19-billion investment by the B. C.

government aimed at addressing housing needs since 2017. With nearly 92,000 homes in progress, the initiative aims to provide lasting solutions for residents. The project exemplifies how community organizations can effectively tackle local housing challenges.
