British Columbia announced a $19 million investment in 64 projects designed to reduce wildfire risk and enhance forest health. Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar emphasized that these efforts will eliminate nearly 11,000 truckloads of flammable waste from provincial forests. The initiative prioritizes First Nations, with 31 projects led by these communities and another 14 involving their participation. This funding is part of a broader $90 million allocation for wildfire prevention efforts through the BC Wildfire Service. Rural areas will benefit significantly, as these projects focus on sustainability and fire prevention.

Moreover, the BC Wildfire Service plans to treat 9,600 hectares in the upcoming fiscal year, with additional support through FESBC for more than 2,100 hectares. The Forest Enhancement Society of BC has previously invested $79. 6 million in community wildfire risk-reduction projects since its establishment in 2016. This funding aims to keep forestry workers employed while ensuring community safety.
