CPR saves lives MPD Assistant Chief, DFW officer pull over to help collapsed construction worker

Marysville, WALocal News

On April 11, Marysville Police Assistant Chief Jim Lawless witnessed a construction worker collapse while driving to work and immediately pulled over to assist. He called for medical help and began CPR, aided by Department of Fish and Wildlife Officer Owen Barabasz, a former EMT. The two took turns administering chest compressions until emergency responders arrived. South County Fire personnel deployed an AED, delivering shocks to the worker's heart after multiple CPR attempts. Remarkably, the construction worker began to show signs of life and was transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Lawless later received confirmation that the worker was breathing independently. This incident illustrates the critical importance of CPR knowledge in emergency situations. Community awareness and training can significantly impact survival rates during medical emergencies.
