Putting the work into firework safety during Fourth of July celebrations

Marysville, WALocal News

Marysville Police focused on enforcing the city's fireworks ban during the Fourth of July weekend, responding to 105 noise complaints and issuing 27 citations. Since the ban was introduced in 2017, the Marysville Fire District has reported a significant decline in fireworks-related property damage and injuries. Firefighters responded to four fireworks-related fires over the holiday, none involving structures, and did not report any injuries within city limits. The citation for setting off personal fireworks is $513, while selling or using dangerous fireworks can lead to misdemeanor charges and higher fines. Data from the National Fire Protection Association highlights that fireworks cause over 19,500 fires annually, with children aged 10 to 14 suffering the highest injury rates.

Sparklers account for about 25% of emergency room visits for firework injuries. Marysville residents can report illegal fireworks by calling 425-407-3999. For further information on firework laws, residents are urged to visit the Marysville Fire District's website.
