In Washington state, over 20% of adults face mental health challenges, with one in four reporting unmet treatment needs. The Marysville Police Department's Embedded Social Worker program aims to connect individuals with resources, especially on World Mental Health Day. Officer Mike Buell emphasized the significance of listening to clients’ stories and building trust as essential elements of the program. Since its launch in 2018, the program has engaged 2,868 individuals, with 472 receiving sustained support. Many clients have successfully secured jobs, housing, and restored family ties.

Rochelle Long, a mental health professional, highlighted the program's ability to meet clients where they are in their recovery journey. Nationally, 40% of adults faced mental health conditions during the pandemic, underscoring the importance of such initiatives. The program continues to combat the barriers between mental health, addiction, and homelessness.
