City, school district update on property exchange

Marysville, WALocal News

The City of Marysville and the Marysville School District have successfully negotiated a property exchange that will enhance operations for both parties. The agreement allows the city to acquire the school district's administration building to facilitate the relocation of its Public Works facility, while the district will move its administration to the former City Hall. This strategic decision was solidified through an amended agreement approved by the Marysville City Council on March 24 and the School Board on March 31, which also includes a $2 million payment from the city to the district based on property value assessments. Construction work on the former City Hall, located at 1049 State Ave. , is slated to begin this month, involving an addition and remodeling with modern features such as new windows and siding.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of December 2025, aligning with the school district's schedule for a summer move. Following the completion, the district will take possession of the site, while the city will relocate to the school district's administration building by January 1, 2027. This exchange not only optimizes city services but also supports the educational infrastructure in Marysville, reflecting a commitment to community development. Such collaborations between local government and educational institutions can serve as a model for other regions.
