Police increase enforcement amid rise in speed-related crashes

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department is intensifying its enforcement efforts on State Avenue and SR 529 due to a troubling increase in speed-related collisions. With a focus on speed compliance, officers will monitor these high-traffic areas closely over the coming months. The speed limit remains at 30 MPH from State Avenue and 1st Street to the SR 529 roundabout, with a reduced limit of 15 MPH within the roundabout itself. So far this year, the Traffic Unit has issued 591 citations and arrested 25 individuals for traffic-related crimes in this critical area. Disturbingly, many vehicles have been observed exceeding the speed limit by 20-30 MPH, leading to dangerous behaviors such as racing and improper merging.

Traffic Unit Sergeant James Maples emphasized the community's safety, stating, “Speeding endangers lives and raises the risk of accidents, especially near construction sites. ” The department's ongoing educational efforts alongside heightened enforcement aim to safeguard both drivers and construction personnel. With their commitment to road safety, the Marysville Police Department seeks to foster a safer driving environment for everyone.
