Police increase enforcement amid rise in speed-related crashes

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department is taking a proactive approach to combat the rising number of speed-related collisions along State Avenue and SR 529. With an increasing number of citations issued, the Traffic Unit plans to intensify enforcement efforts in these high-traffic areas to protect both drivers and construction workers. The speed limit remains set at 30 MPH, with a reduced 15 MPH limit in the roundabout, clearly marked by posted signs. In the current year, the Traffic Unit has already issued 591 citations and made 25 arrests for various traffic-related crimes. Disturbingly, many vehicles are reported to be traveling 20-30 MPH over the speed limit, which contributes to dangerous behaviors such as racing and improper merging.

This trend has heightened the risk of collisions, especially where construction activities are ongoing. “The safety of our community is our top priority,” stated Traffic Unit Sergeant James Maples, highlighting the need for compliance with speed limits. The Marysville Police Department’s commitment to heightened enforcement and educational efforts aims to create safer roads for everyone.
