MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its launch in September. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's primary goal of rescuing animals from abusive circumstances and ensuring they receive medical care. Developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, the initiative has shown success in saving more animals and prosecuting offenders. Vasconi, who is passionate about animal welfare, noted that these animals rely on humans for their basic needs and love. The Community Service Unit, which handles animal cruelty investigations, consists of one dedicated reserve officer addressing numerous complaints each year.

The program's positive impact on local animal welfare has garnered appreciation from local officials and advocates. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected cruelty by calling 911 immediately. This proactive approach not only aims to protect animals but also promotes community awareness of animal rights.
