MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department unveiled an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to strengthen local efforts against animal abuse. This initiative has attracted nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers since its launch in September. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi underscored the program's mission to rescue animals from abusive situations and ensure they receive medical care. The training, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, equips law enforcement with the tools to hold offenders accountable. Vasconi, who has a lifelong passion for animal welfare, emphasized the importance of being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
The program has already shown promising results, with increased numbers of rescued animals and arrests for cruelty offenses. The Community Service Unit, which handles animal cruelty complaints, plays a vital role in these efforts. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected cruelty by calling 911, reinforcing community involvement in protecting vulnerable animals.
