MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers across nearly 70 agencies since launching in September. Officer Dave Vasconi noted that the primary goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with medical care and new homes. The training curriculum, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, focuses on preventing animal cruelty and holding offenders accountable. Participants report positive experiences and appreciation for the program's content. The Community Service Unit at MPD, led by Officer Vasconi, handles numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often resulting in arrests and rescues.

This initiative reflects a significant local commitment to improving animal welfare. If anyone suspects animal cruelty, the department urges them to call 911. The program's success may lead to broader adoption of similar training across other jurisdictions.
