MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to mitigate animal suffering and ensure justice for abused animals. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the primary goal is to rescue animals from distressing situations and provide necessary medical care. Since its launch in September, the program has seen participation from nearly 70 agencies, with over 460 officers trained to handle animal cruelty cases effectively. Vasconi, motivated by a lifelong passion for animal welfare, believes that animals rely on humans for their basic needs and deserve compassion. The Director of Investigations at Pasado’s Safe Haven noted the program's success and thanked contributors for their efforts.

The training not only helps save animals but also increases accountability for offenders. The Community Service Unit, which handles various animal cruelty complaints, plays a crucial role in ensuring state laws are enforced. Residents witnessing animal cruelty are urged to report such incidents immediately by calling 911.
