MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has successfully trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since launching in September. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's primary objective: rescuing animals from abusive circumstances and providing them with necessary medical care. This initiative, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has resulted in more animals being saved and offenders being held accountable. Vasconi, who has a deep passion for animal welfare, noted that animals rely on humans for their basic needs and deserve compassion. The Marysville Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, specializes in enforcing state laws against crimes against animals.
Each year, the unit responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints, often leading to arrests and rescues. The program's success underscores the importance of community involvement in combating animal cruelty. Residents are urged to report any suspected abuse by calling 911 immediately.
