MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new training program aims to combat animal cruelty, enrolling nearly 70 agencies and training over 460 officers since its September launch. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's focus on rescuing animals from abuse and providing necessary medical care and homes. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has seen positive participant feedback, according to the organization's Director of Investigations. Vasconi, who specializes in animal cruelty cases, responds to many complaints each year, often resulting in arrests and rescues. The program underscores the department's commitment to animal welfare and accountability for offenders.

Additionally, the Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, is dedicated to enforcing laws against animal cruelty. The training program reflects a broader effort to enhance community awareness and response to animal abuse. Residents are urged to report animal cruelty incidents by calling 911.
