MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department is actively addressing animal cruelty through its new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program, which has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its launch in September. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi stresses the program's goal of rescuing animals from abusive situations and ensuring they receive medical care and new homes. The initiative has resulted in a significant increase in the number of animals saved and offenders held accountable. Vasconi's commitment to animal welfare drives his efforts, as he believes animals rely on humans for their basic needs. The training curriculum was developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission.

The program's success reflects a growing recognition of the importance of animal protection. Local residents are encouraged to report suspected animal cruelty by calling 911. This proactive approach aims to foster a safer environment for animals in the Marysville community.
