MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to tackle animal abuse and has engaged nearly 70 agencies. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the initiative's focus on rescuing animals from abusive situations and providing them with necessary medical care. Since its launch in September, the program has successfully trained over 460 officers, leading to a notable increase in animal rescues and accountability for offenders. “I am eager each time someone tells me they took [the Animal Cruelty Investigation Training] and loved it,” said the Director of Investigations and Rescue Operations at Pasado's Safe Haven. The program reflects a community commitment to protecting vulnerable animals and enhancing law enforcement's response to cruelty cases.

The Marysville Community Service Unit, which includes Officer Vasconi, plays a crucial role in investigating animal cruelty complaints. Last year, the unit responded to numerous cases, resulting in arrests and rescues. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately.
