MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has successfully trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its launch in September. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized the program's primary objective of rescuing animals from abusive situations and providing them with essential medical care. Developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, the curriculum aims to enhance accountability for those who harm animals. Vasconi's dedication stems from a lifelong passion for animal welfare, emphasizing their dependence on humans for basic needs and affection. The program's success has led to a notable increase in the number of animals saved and offenders prosecuted.

Additionally, the Community Service Unit in Marysville investigates various animal cruelty complaints, often resulting in arrests and rescues. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected cruelty by dialing 911. This initiative reflects the community's commitment to improving the welfare of animals and holding offenders accountable.
