MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has enrolled nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers since its inception in September. This initiative aims to enhance the prevention of animal cruelty and ensure accountability for offenders. Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the program's primary goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with necessary medical care and new homes post-court cases. The training curriculum was developed collaboratively with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, showcasing a commitment to animal welfare. The Marysville Community Service Unit is dedicated to investigating and enforcing state laws against animal crimes, with Officer Vasconi specializing in this area.
Each year, he responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints, often resulting in arrests and rescues. Community members are urged to report suspected cruelty by calling 911 to facilitate prompt action. This program reflects a growing awareness and commitment to addressing animal welfare issues within the community.
