MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has introduced a training program aimed at eradicating animal cruelty, enrolling nearly 70 agencies and training over 460 officers since September. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi emphasized the program’s primary objective: to rescue animals from abusive circumstances and provide them with necessary medical care. He partnered with Pasado’s Safe Haven to create the Animal Cruelty Investigation Training curriculum, which has effectively increased accountability for offenders. Vasconi shared his passion for animal welfare, stating that animals depend on humans for basic needs and deserve love. The program's success is reflected in the rise of animals saved and offenders held accountable.

Local residents are urged to report any suspected instances of animal cruelty by calling 911. The Community Service Unit also addresses various animal-related calls, reinforcing the commitment to animal protection. This initiative represents a significant step toward improving animal welfare in Marysville and surrounding areas.
