MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its inception in September. This initiative, led by Officer Dave Vasconi and Pasado’s Safe Haven, aims to rescue animals from abusive conditions and ensure they receive medical care. Vasconi expressed his passion for animal welfare, stating that animals rely on humans for their basic needs. The program has demonstrated significant success, resulting in more rescues and increased accountability for offenders. Marysville’s Community Service Unit, which includes one reserve officer specializing in animal crimes, handles many cruelty complaints every year.

The unit often arrests suspects and rescues abused animals. This training initiative reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare in the community, emphasizing the importance of swift reporting to authorities. Residents are encouraged to act promptly by calling 911 if they suspect animal cruelty.
