MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department launched a new training program to combat animal cruelty, enrolling nearly 70 agencies and training over 460 officers. Officer Dave Vasconi stressed that the primary goal is to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with essential medical care. The initiative, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has resulted in significant improvements in animal rescue efforts since its inception in September. Feedback from officers who completed the Animal Cruelty Investigation Training has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating its effectiveness. This program not only aims to hold abusers accountable but also ensures that rescued animals can find new homes after legal proceedings.

The Community Service Unit, led by Officer Vasconi, responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often resulting in arrests and rescues. With increased community awareness and involvement, the department encourages anyone witnessing animal cruelty to contact 911 immediately. The initiative reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare and public safety in Marysville.
