MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has implemented an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aimed at reducing animal abuse and improving community welfare. Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the primary objective is to rescue animals from abusive situations and provide them with medical care and new homes. Since its inception in September, the program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies, resulting in increased accountability for offenders. The director of Pasado's Safe Haven commended the initiative and expressed gratitude for the efforts of those involved in developing the curriculum. Marysville’s Community Service Unit, led by Officer Vasconi, plays a crucial role in investigating animal cruelty cases.

The officer frequently supports the police patrol division and responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints each year. The program's success indicates a growing commitment to animal welfare in the region. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911 to ensure swift action.
