MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since its inception in September. Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the program aims to rescue animals from abusive environments and provide them with necessary medical care and new homes after legal proceedings. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, emphasizes accountability for offenders. Vasconi shared his deep-seated passion for animal welfare, highlighting the need for humans to advocate for animals who cannot speak for themselves. The program has reported impressive outcomes in terms of animals saved and convictions for cruelty.

The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often resulting in arrests and rescues. Residents who suspect animal cruelty are urged to call 911 to report their concerns. This program reflects a growing commitment to animal rights and welfare in the Marysville community.
