MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aims to tackle animal abuse in the community effectively. Launched in September, the initiative has successfully trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies, resulting in increased animal rescues and accountability for offenders. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasizes the critical role of advocacy for animals, stating they rely on humans for their well-being. The training curriculum was developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven to ensure comprehensive education for law enforcement. Vasconi expresses appreciation for the contributions of Pasado’s team, acknowledging their efforts in making the program a success.

The Community Service Unit, which includes Vasconi, responds to numerous animal cruelty complaints each year. Residents are urged to report suspected animal abuse by calling 911 immediately. This proactive training approach not only protects animals but also fosters a sense of responsibility within the community.
