MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has initiated an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to enhance the response to animal abuse, now embraced by nearly 70 law enforcement agencies. Officer Dave Vasconi, a passionate advocate for animal welfare, emphasizes the importance of providing care and finding homes for rescued animals. Since its launch in September, the program has trained over 460 officers, resulting in a significant rise in animal rescues and increased accountability for offenders. The Director of Investigations and Rescue Operations at Pasado's Safe Haven commended the collaborative effort, noting the positive feedback from trained officers. Officer Vasconi's role in the Community Service Unit focuses on investigating crimes against animals, often leading to arrests and rescues.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to protect vulnerable animals in the community. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty immediately by calling 911. This training program not only addresses current issues but also aims to foster a more compassionate community towards animals.
