MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to address and prevent animal cruelty in the area. Since September, nearly 70 agencies have enrolled, resulting in over 460 officers trained and a significant increase in animal rescues and prosecutions. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi stated that the primary goal is to remove animals from abusive situations and ensure they receive necessary medical care. The training program, developed in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, has garnered positive feedback from participants. The Community Service Unit, which includes Officer Vasconi, addresses numerous animal cruelty complaints each year, often leading to arrests and rescues.

This initiative highlights the commitment of local authorities to protect vulnerable animals. Citizens are urged to report any incidents of animal cruelty by calling 911. The effort represents a proactive approach to safeguarding animal welfare in Marysville.
