MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has initiated an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to combat animal abuse in the community. This program, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has enrolled nearly 70 agencies and trained over 460 officers since its launch in September. Officer Dave Vasconi emphasizes the program's goal of rescuing animals from abusive situations and providing them with necessary medical care. He expresses a deep passion for animal welfare, noting that animals depend on humans for their basic needs and companionship. The program's success has led to increased accountability for offenders, with positive feedback from participants.

Vasconi acknowledges the contributions of his colleagues in making the initiative possible. The Community Service Unit, which handles animal cruelty investigations, responds to numerous complaints each year, often resulting in arrests and rescues. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911.
