MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department has implemented an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program aimed at preventing animal abuse in the community. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted that their foremost goal is to remove animals from abusive situations and facilitate their recovery and rehoming post-investigation. Since its inception in September, the program has trained over 460 officers across nearly 70 agencies, resulting in more animals being saved and offenders held accountable. Collaborating with Pasado's Safe Haven and the Criminal Justice Training Commission, Vasconi and other advocates created a robust training curriculum. The program has garnered positive feedback, with many officers praising its effectiveness.

Marysville’s Community Service Unit, led by Officer Vasconi, specializes in investigating animal cruelty cases and supporting police patrols. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspected animal cruelty by contacting 911. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare in the region.
